National Carp and Pest Fish Task Force

Carp Pest control

In 1996 the Murray Darling Association established the Carp Task Force in an attempt to better coordinate the control of the carp in Australia. The principle aim of the Task Force is to provide a strong focus for local government and community participation in the management and control of carp. The National Carp Task Force has membership from Local Government, the community, recreation and commercial fishing groups, researchers and government agencies.

A coordinated approach to carp management and control through research, education, information and commercial opportunities is adopted. The Task Force is carrying out its mains aims by adopting activities including: providing an effective forum to seek community input on ways to mitigate the carp problem, developing a range of quality carp education materials, encourage commercial exploitation of carp, support plans to reduce the impact of carp in waterways, and assess the impacts of carp mitigation activities. The Task Force is now represented on the new Daughterless Carp Reference Group.
